Public Dissemination Report for the National Arts Council: Youth Arts Qualitative Study

NAC Youth Arts Report (Blackbox)-page-001The National Arts Council has released a public dissemination report by Blackbox. This study focused on defining barriers and drivers of arts participation amongst youths aged 18-35.

The year-long study combined traditional and new media qualitative methodologies in an innovative approach to reaching out to the young to learn about their arts habits.

Key Findings included:

  • The extrinsic and intrinsic  factors that contributed to arts continuation
  • The key extrinsic factors: the creation and maintenance of social circles, participation avenues that are ‘fun’ and require low commitment, and finally the importance of credible and targeted information
  • Potential strategies to address these key factors.
