The National Arts Council has released a public dissemination report by Blackbox. This study focused on defining barriers and drivers of arts participation amongst youths aged 18-35.
The year-long study combined traditional and new media qualitative methodologies in an innovative approach to reaching out to the young to learn about their arts habits.
Key Findings included:
- The extrinsic and intrinsic factors that contributed to arts continuation
- The key extrinsic factors: the creation and maintenance of social circles, participation avenues that are ‘fun’ and require low commitment, and finally the importance of credible and targeted information
- Potential strategies to address these key factors.

We carried out a survey of 370 Singaporeans of voting age (21 and above) on 3-4 May 2011. Voters of all electorates were included with the exception of Tanjong Pagar where the vote was not contested due to a walkover. Interviews were carried out both online and telephone in order to ensure a broad reach of citizens, including those who are less likely to use the Internet.
